This is the feature of the search engine that is most commonly referred to by many SEOs. For several, the search engine “crawls” the web to gather and index fresh web sites. But the truth is that the spiders of the search engine do not “crawl” or “visit” any page. What they do instead is, like your usual web explorer, they request website pages and send them to the index programme for review when they receive this information!


I ‘m sure many would be puzzled by the above assertion because they were made to believe that the spiders “crawl” around the web searching for information to collect! But you must realise that the “crawling” of spiders on the web is just figurative. For example, when your website has new content, the search engine spider does not “crawl” to retrieve the new information from your website. Instead, the search engine spider simply “sends” a request to your site based on the number of visits you have set for your website and if there is any new material, the material is added to the search engine indexes.


I would point out here that this is where it is really important to ping the search engines anytime you add new material to your site. Doing so would automatically alert the search engines that some new material for compilation is available on your site. This way, in a matter of minutes after being linked to your website or blog, your website material will get into the search indices. You can actually do this automatically with the use of plugins if you are using the wordpress blogging platform for your pages.


Another thing that you need to remember about search engine spiders is that they don’t collect or format photos. The text and links and, of course, the urls connected to the content are all that they care about. Logos and photos in the “alt tag” should be defined by text, otherwise the spiders will ignore them. 2. The App for Index


This can be represented as the search engine ‘s brain. What this programme does is take all the text , links and urls that have been collected by the spider programme, find out what they are all about, categorise them and organise them accordingly.


The index programme uses a complex mathematical formula called an algorithm to index terms, word pairs, phrases, etc. and then place a score on them so that it can easily decide which of the content and url is applicable to that search when anyone uses the search engine when searching for some information!

The App for Question In reality, this is what the average individual considers as a search engine.
